Operation Nursery~He’s Still a Boy~34 Week Update

Good Morning!

Heavens to Murgatroyd do I ever owe an update!

I’m going to have to catch up in several posts… so in this first one I’ll update on the things I’ve been promising with the most frequency.  Operation Nursery, He’s still a boy, and my 34 week update!  Then over the next few weeks I’ll catch up the rest of it!  I can’t believe it’s been almost two months since I was really here!  So much has happened in the past 7 weeks…

I’m going to begin with ‘Operation Nursery’.

First I’m going to show you again the picture of the nursery before Mom and I got at the furniture…  We refinished the antique dresser to the left and the old 70’s rocking chair to the right.

I say ‘we’ but to be perfectly honest, it was mostly my mom.  Refinishing requires far too many chemicals that I’m not supposed to be around.  I spent a great deal of the time locked into a different portion of the house just watching her work or running errands for her whenever she needed something.

Here she is stripping the dresser…

I braved the room once in a while to check out the progress.  I’m not one to sit back and have others work on my stuff so I couldn’t stay away all of the time!

No worries though, I wore a mask!

It’s coming along… sanding and staining and sanding and varnishing…  It was a lot of work!

Once that was done (No worries I have pictures of it finished and in the nursery) we started work on the chair…  It was horrible!  She sanded it down with an electric sander and then I helped her sand it down by hand.  Once we had it sanded she applied stripper and… NOTHING!

We went through three different kinds of stripper and several home remedy tricks and nothing broke through the old varnish.  She swears they must have stuck this sucker in a kiln after they lacquered it!!!

So for a time we thought that this was it.  The way my favorite rocking chair in all the world would look forever!  For a few days we were sick with the thought!!!

And then I had an inspiration!!!

“Let’s paint it red!”

So we did and it’s AWESOME!!!

Since we were going red I had her paint the Pirate wheel red too…

Oh, have I not told you about the pirate wheel?

This will hang above his crib.  When he’s born I’ll write on it

Captain Isaac Orion Laube
Insert his birth date)
USS Scuttlebutt

That last is a joke of Ryan’s.  He always teases that when he retires he’s going to take up piracy.  He wants to be the ‘Dread Pirate Lauberts’ and captain the USS Scuttlebutt (Scuttlebutt is an old sailing term used for gossip) and I’m to be his pirate wench.  Please imagine me hugely rolling my eyes at this!

So here is a picture of Mom working at the helm… snicker!

So are you ready to see the finished product?  Dare ye enter?

Here it be!  A genuine pirate nursery!  Remember that the green and red lanterns are the Starboard (green) and port (red) of his little ship!

We absolutely love it and I’m so glad I went with red!

Here is a blanket that I got at the shower and decided to make into a wall hanging…  right over his blanket rack, which incidentally is getting very full!  But… I’m not done yet…

Didn’t the dresser turn out beautifully!?  It turns out that once we got it stripped down it was birds eye maple!  They just don’t make them like this anymore!

I love my red chair!  I can’t wait to rock him in it…

My mother in law bought us our diaper changer to match our crib.  Ryan commissioned her to make us a sign to hang above it… Ready for it?

It says “POOP DECK”  How funny is that?

I don’t have it hung yet because I need to go out and buy a hanger for it.

This is the pirate bedding.

Here’s a close up of the pirates for fun…

Even Gandalf loves the nursery and spends much of his time there these days basking in the sun.

We are thrilled with the outcome of ‘Operation Nursery’.  There are a thousand other behind the scenes things that you can’t see… like the fact that the dresser is full of his little clothes all washed and ready to go, the shelves are arranged with his toys and the things he’ll need shortly after birth, ect.  It was a well packed three weeks!

THANKS MOM!  There is no way I could have done it without you!

Another thing to come out of the past few weeks was a new ultrasound!  I went in for my 32 week appointment just a day after my return to Texas.  My mom came with me since she was here and when my doctor saw her he decided that she needed to see her grandson!  How cool of him was that!!!?

So I have a 32 week ultrasound that proves he is healthy and thriving and at 32 weeks measured in at 4 pounds 1 ounce and right on schedule.

It also proved once and for all that he is most definitely a HE!

One last thing that I most definitely owe you is an updated pregnancy photo.  How about several?  Ryan and I went out into the backyard since it was such a nice day and decided to do a little photo shoot.

Let me remind you what I looked like last time at 27 weeks…

And here I am now!  YIKES!!!

Okay okay in all seriousness… Here are the results of our little photo shoot…

One more goofy picture just for fun.  I was joking around with Ryan and stuck my foot up.  I asked,

“Hey honey, do I look like I’ve got a little captain in me?”

He replied, quite straight faced,

“Why yes you do.  A little Captain Isaac Orion Laube!”

Well duh!  We are doing a pirate theme!

He got a laugh… of course!

And last but not least… this will be my official 34 week pregnancy picture.  I can’t believe how fast it’s going!

Well, that will do it for me today.

I’ll be back with more soon!

All my love,

Two minutes to rub together…

I know I owe so much here…  I have so much to share… pictures and stories and and and!

My trip to Phoenix was a whirlwind and my shower was great… Three weeks flew by and were packed by so much it still hurts my head to think about it.

I’m now home in Texas and my mom is here with me and we are working on stuff for the nursery… My Dad will join us tomorrow and then one week later they are out of here.

I’m 33 weeks along and HUGE!  I know I seriously owe pictures…

We may have FINALLY found a church here in Del Rio.  We’ll see how it pans out but boy have we missed having a church!

When I got home Ryan and I took Gandalf to the vet because he could suddenly barely walk.  I’ll talk more about it later but long story short… he has severe degenerative bone disease.  It looks like we’ll have to put him down in the next few weeks.  If you’ve known me for a while you know that Gandalf is my baby and we’ve had him for a wonderful 8 years…

Basically I’m physically and mentally consumed right now.  Once actual activity slows down a bit next week I’ll be back.

I have done my very best to make sure I know what’s going on with you ladies but I haven’t had two minutes to rub together to comment.  Please know that I’m thinking of you and praying for those in need.

All my love…  be back soon…
