Dinner, Dolls, and Daily Ramblings…

Guten Morgan Xangaland!

I hope and pray that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. We had a lovely time. We invited a coworker of Ryan’s and her family (husband, two boys and one girl) over for dinner. I pulled out all of the stops and cooked everything my family usually has and she brought some trimmings (green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, rolls, and an italian dessert.)

I made:

Spinach Torte,

Homemade (and I mean chopping bread home made) cornbread stuffing.

(and of course some olives and cranberry sauce)

Sweet Potato Pie

Turkey breast with roast potatoes and onions ( I choose not to go the 12 pound turkey way since there were only four adults, the oven here is VERY small, and I don’t have a roasting pan, I’ve always used my mother in law’s)

Then for dessert I made homemade Eggnog bread and it was yummy!

Cream cheese pecan pie (it looks nasty but it’s so good, a nice alternative to the oh too sweet pecan pie)

And last but certainly not least, homemade pumpkin pie!

Ryan insisted on making me pose before my spread to take a photo…

We really did have a very nice time though we missed our family gathering so very much. And I must say, I really must that cooking all of that alone is a lot harder than the huge family potluck we are accustomed to… I cooked for almost 15 hours total over two days.. I enjoyed every minute but it gives me a new healthy dose of respect for my mother who doesn’t particularly enjoy cooking and has done this for years!

In other news, winter is fast approaching here… actually we are experiencing a heat wave… our highs have been in the 50’s all week! LOL But the time of last years first snow has come and gone so we are hoping for it any time… And the daylight is getting shorter and shorter… right now we have sunrise at about 8:45am and sunset at 4:30pm… that takes some getting used to!

I took this picture from my balcony this morning… Most of the leaves are gone now and this is the tree right outside my living room window. There were big beads of dew shining of every branch in the sun but I couldn’t capture it since my back had to be to the sun to get the picture… pretty non the less…

I do have some wonderful news, my best friend Emily is coming to visit!!! She will be here on the 24th of January for two weeks! I’m so excited, she’ll be the first to visit me here and I simply can not wait to see her again!!!

Soon after we will be going home to Phoenix! My little sister is getting married! I have tried to keep my mouth shut long enough for her to get the news out but I just have to say something.

becky and tyler

They will be getting hitched in April but I’ll let her put out the details. So we will be flying into Phoenix on the 7th of April and returning to Germany on the 1st of March!

Gia if you’re reading this stop now unless you want to see Lucy’s Christmas gift and spoil the surprise! I leave it up to you!! 🙂

Okay last but not least I have to show you some pictures of a Christmas gift I made for a special little lady who will shortly be celebrating her very first Christmas.

Meet Mutig

His name means Lionhearted in German. He is holding a little pink star with an L on it because his little girls name is Lucy and her name means bringer of light.

How cute is that little tail!?!

Well that does it for me today! I’m off to finish up my Christmas cards and to visit with all of you.

Auf Wiedersehen

Song of the day?  Love is a Movement by Switchfoot just because I haven’t heard it in a while…

Little Red Riding Hood…

Guten Tag Xangaland!

It has been quite a while since my last post… I have been so very sick this past week and though it’s letting up I’m still not feeling quite myself… I have a feeling that extended use of cold medicine will do that to you!

Despite my cold we dressed up warm and made the trip down to Ramstein this weekend to shop and just to get out of the house!  We had a wonderful day and Ryan bought me my first German Christmas gift!!!

And what a gift it is… ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with renaissance dress and I have always wanted to be able to dress like that…  Of course that’s not practical but there is one piece of clothing that as far as I’m concerned can always be worn…  The Cloak!

So you may think I’m strange and it may be a little too old fashioned but I love it…  On the way home we saw a little walking path that we hadn’t noticed before and decided to give it a try.

It was sprinkling rain so I put on my cloak for the very first time and Ryan grabbed the camera.  He said that I looked a little too much like little red riding hood…

(come on you know that you would have to try out running in it too!) or something out of the village (creepy huh?)

to pass up taking pictures of me in the woods so here you go.

(Of course Ryan caught me twirling!)

This path was beautiful… It followed along a little creek that was swollen from the rain of the past few weeks…

After walking for about half an hour we came to a series of little bridges that crossed over the falls…  Ryan stood on the upper while I went down to check it out…

As Ryan turned the corner down the stairs this is what he saw…

We had discovered an out door chapel in the middle of the woods by the little river… and the candles were lit…

So off we went to explore other places… places not quite so quiet and dark and, well, quite frankly… spooky… We came out on top of a hill overlooking a small town and the colors were breathtaking…

The pictures, as always, don’t do it justice…

It’s funny how this whole area is like a patchwork quilt… there are stands of pine and stands of oak…

and even though all the leaves have changed and most of them have already fallen… the grass is still emerald green!

Such beautiful country…

And so I’m off to spend the rest of my day cooking and cleaning and getting ready for Thanksgiving on Thursday.  We are having one of Ryan’s coworkers and her family here for the day…. I’m making Turkey and stuffing… spinach torte… sweet potato pie… pumpkin pie… pecan cheese cake… eggnog bread… gravy…. yum!!!!!

So to all of you….

Happy Thanksgiving from the land of Fairy Tales!

So what does “sick as a dog” mean anyway?

Yep… I’m sick… soooooo sick… stuffy nose… can’t breathe…. sinus pressure… headache…. fever….  um I can’t think of the rest of it… going to bed…

But for now here’s something to make you smile!

A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word.
An earlier discussion had led to an argument and
neither of them wanted to concede their position.
As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs,
the husband asked sarcastically, “Relatives of yours?”
“Yep,” the wife replied, “in-laws.”

A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day…
30,000 to a man’s 15,000.
The wife replied, “The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men…
The husband then turned to his wife and asked, “What?”

A man said to his wife one day, “I don’t know how you can be
so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time.
” The wife responded, “Allow me to explain.
God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me;
God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!

A man and his wife were having an argument about who
should brew the coffee each morning.
The wife said, “You should do it, because you get up first,
and then we don’t have to wait as long to get our coffee.”
The husband said, ” You are in charge of cooking around here and
you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee.”
Wife replies, “No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible
that the man should do the coffee.”
Husband replies, “I can’t believe that, show me.”
So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament
and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says…….. .”HEBREWS”

The Silent Treatment
A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.
Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper,
“Please wake me at 5:00 AM.” He left it where he knew she would find it.
The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and
see why his wife hadn’t wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, “It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.”
Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

You have to… and I mean HAVE to see this video!  It is one of the cutest and funniest things I have EVER seen.  Make sure you turn up your volume!

And with that,

Good Night!

Hey anyone got those really soft tissues?  The BX is out… grumble….

This and That

Guten Morgan Xangaland!

It has been awhile hasn’t it?  It was a busy week with the exercise and all…  And then Ryan had Friday off for Veterans day and then got sick as a dog on Friday night.  Poor guy.  So we spent the weekend watching TV and catching up on our shows… and then yesterday he was feeling a little bit better so we took the opportunity to wash the dogs!!!  Of course one thing leads to another and a quick wash became grooming…  We have been unable to find a groomer for Yoda here and he’s been getting a bit scraggly of late…

Cute though huh?

So I pulled out the old clippers and tried my hand at a hair cut for my boy.  I don’t think I did half bad either!!!

Look at that cute boy!  You can tell he’s getting older though… he’s starting to discolor around his mouth and feet despite the snow white shampoo we use on him…

Gandalf got a bath too and posed pretty for us with his brother.

And of course what does a shaved small dog need?  A sweater!  So I tried my hand at my first crocheted dog sweater… he actually seemed to like it!  I’m not much of a dog sweater person but we walked him and he was shivering so bad that he wouldn’t even pee! I made this later in the day and everything is now hunky dory!

How cute can he be… seriously.

Well sadly enough I don’t have anything else to talk about for as busy as I have been.  Except maybe that I think I may be coming down with whatever Ryan has… blech!

Crisp Fall Days…

Guten Morgan Xangaland!

First things first… More stuffed animals!

This first one is bear #2… I wasn’t satisfied with the face and head of the first one so she got a make over. I think she’s much cuter now myself and a fitting gift for the little princess I have in mind.

The second picture is bear #3 and my greatest stuffed animal achievement so far… Though she isn’t as complicated as #2 I’m a sucker for big and squishy and that she is!

This past week when the air was truly cold Ryan and I took the dogs out for a play date. Here is a picture of me and Gandalf waiting for Yoda to um… finish his business and be ready to play.

See that scarf? That’s a new pattern I have and the thing was such a big hit… I walked into the post office to get my mail and the guy kept staring at me… I was getting really self conscious when he finally blurted out “That scarf is beautiful! Where did you get it?” I told him that I made it and he quickly asked if I took orders… I said yes of course and before I knew it I had an order for a pink one much shorter but just long enough to make his little girl feel like a princess! What fun!

I couldn’t resist sharing this little video with all of you.  It’s of the little play date we had with the dogs and I thought that those of you who know us might like to see how well they are doing here…  Though Gandalf wasn’t feeling so hot that day…  And for everyone else I just think my boys are cute!

Also, please excuse my running… I thought that at the moment Ryan was playing with Yoda… Turns out Yoda was following me and I was running like a girl.  In my defense I was wearing Motorcycle boots and the grass was slick and, after all, I am a girl!

This weekend Ryan and I went and put the Motorcycle in storage… it was a little scary since we had snow flurry warnings for that day and we had to take high mountain passes through deep dark forest to get to the little town where the storage facility is located… So we were sure that there would be ice on the road.

However Ryan assures me (razza frazza I couldn’t ride since I had to drive the car, we had to get back somehow!) that this was by far the most beautiful and most fun ride he’s ever been on yet (the whole drive { about 20 kilometers } the roads were switchbacks and curves and on a bike that’s a blast!) It was a beautiful day so on the way home we stopped and walked along some nature trails.

Most of the leaves have fallen now but you can still see just how beautiful this season is here…  We found this old tree and it reminded us so much of the “creepy trees in cheesy old movies” that we had to have a picture!

The sun coming through the leaves of that tree was so beautiful.

See how creepy this tree is?  Maybe you had to be there in person… to feel the stillness in the air and to see nothing but age old woods all around you… and though this looks all bright and pretty it was dark… I just have an awesome camera! LOL

This part of the woods had scenes from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and The Princess Bride dancing through my head… there just aren’t forest that look like this back home.

See that bunch of stuff in my hands?  I was picking up limbs of colored leaves and ferns and bits of pine boughs to make a fall bouquet…  Ryan has this new fascination with taking pictures of me walking away… hmm…  I never post them but this one had such pretty scenery I couldn’t pass it up… plus I’m wearing a big wool coat so what’s the harm? LOL

In fact I didn’t even know he had stopped… Would you like to see why?  This place is just full of beauty… so full that you can’t stop looking no matter where you go… My pictures do not do this place justice either…

As I was telling my mom the other day, some of the most beautiful places we have seen here in Germany were from the car…  There just ins’t anywhere to pull off for pictures on roads that two cars can’t even pass on!  But this picture comes close to showing you a glimpse of what I see every day!

 In other news….

Ryan is a player in a down range exercise for this week…  His hours are roughly 6am to 8pm or so Monday through Thursday so I won’t be seeing much of him for a while.  Last night he had to put on all his chem gear to check for fit and such before beginning the exercise today and he consented to pose especially for the family.

 Ah so very Ryan!

Just to give everyone a quick update… It looks like we will be getting a visit from my best friend in the beginning of February.  Then we will be going back to Arizona for the month of April for a wedding.  Then Ryan will be deploying off and on from May to August… (We don’t know further details, only that they will probably be short, a month at a time, and that they will be all over Europe)  Then my mom and dad will be here to visit from mid October to mid November.

And then… oh yes… and then  Ryan will be deploying, probably in January, for six months to Iraq…  So excited about that one.    I’ll keep you informed as we learn more.  But that’s about all we have planned so far… (All we have planned that covers more than a year from now! LOL)

Well that’s all the news from “The Land of Fairy Tales”  I’m off to finish work on a few projects and to deliver my finished scarf to the man at the post office!

Auf Wiedersehen!

Hippos and Bugs and Bears… Oh My!

Guten Morgan Xangaland!

Today Ryan and I woke up to a the most amazing site for two people from Arizona!  We have experienced our first frost here in Germany… and though that doesn’t sound like a big deal just remember we come from a place where frost is what you scrape out of your freezer in July to put in front of a fan to cool down a room!

The grass was coated in ice and the dogs went wild for it on their morning walk.  The only word to describe it is frolick!  The roofs, which are normally brown, were white with it and the cars were coated!  That was the only downside.  We don’t have an ice scraper, guess we should have thought to buy one!  So Ryan had to walk to work… and would you like to guess what the temperature was at 8am?  No?  Well try 28 degrees with wind so the “Feels like” was 20 degrees!  Even now at noon it’s only 32!  We had better get some winter tires soon!

Okay on to other things…  You all know that I crochet… Well over this last weekend I taught myself to make stuffed animals!  And I’ve been having a blast…  I think that these are going to all the babies on my Christmas list this year!  So much fun!!!

Here is a cute little caterpillar!

A pretty pink teddy bear for one of the little princesses in my life.

And the Kudegras of my little collection!  A little blue hippo for my new nephew Malaki!!!  His mamma collects them and his nursery is done in them.

Today or tomorrow Ryan and I are going to put the bike into storage… I wish we had been able to do it sooner… I won’t stop worrying about ice on the roads until it’s locked down and stored but circumstances arose that made sooner impossible.

Well, that’s all for me today… I’m off to work on a new pattern for a teddy bear…  It’s turning out to be cute so far so we shall see.

Auf Wiedersehen!
